Ashwin’s Sixth Test Ton Rescues India as Bangladesh Lose Momentum After Fiery Start

India ended Day 1 of their first Test against Bangladesh in a commanding position, thanks to an exceptional unbeaten 195-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ashwin notched up his sixth Test century, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86, guiding India to 334 for six at stumps.

After a shaky start that saw India at 144 for six, the duo stabilized the innings with a counter-attacking approach. Ashwin was particularly aggressive, scoring briskly, while Jadeja provided solid support. Bangladesh's bowlers, led by Hasan Mahmud's four-wicket haul, had earlier dominated, reducing India's top and middle order to rubble. Hasan dismissed key Indian batsmen, including captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, before Ashwin and Jadeja wrested control of the game.

Bangladesh will look to break the partnership early on Day 2, while India will aim to build on their strong position.
